Lizzie Borden House nominated in two categories as voting opens across ghost tours, haunted destinations, and haunted hotels
FALL RIVER, MA, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — US Ghost Adventures has earned six nominations in the 2026 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and for three of its historic properties, this is a third straight year on the ballot.
The nominations span three categories, four states, and the District of Columbia. The Lizzie Borden House picked up two of the nominations. Nominees are chosen by a panel of industry experts, and the winners are decided entirely by public vote. Voting opened Monday, Aug. 24, and winners will be announced Wednesday, Sept. 30.
The six nominations include:
Best Ghost Tour
DC Ghosts — Washington, D.C.
Colonial Ghosts — Williamsburg, Va.
Best Haunted Destination
Villisca Axe Murder House — Villisca, Iowa
McInteer Villa — Atchison, Kan.
Lizzie Borden House — Fall River, Mass.
Best Haunted Hotel
Lizzie Borden House — Fall River, Mass.
Three of the nominated properties are returning to the ballot. The Lizzie Borden House was a finalist for Best Haunted Hotel in both 2024 and 2025. McInteer Villa ranked third for Best Haunted Destination in 2024, and the Villisca Axe Murder House was a finalist in the same category that year. Both McInteer Villa and the Villisca Axe Murder House were top contenders for Best Haunted Destination in 2025.
The nominated properties are among the historic properties US Ghost Adventures owns and operates as museums and overnight stays, and the audiences they draw are just as varied and includes preservationists, architecture enthusiasts, true crime followers, and guests who book a room for the ghost hunt.
The Villisca Axe Murder House is the site of the unsolved 1912 murders of six members of the Moore family and two young houseguests, sisters Lena and Ina Stillinger. McInteer Villa is a Queen Anne home in Atchison, Kansas, that the company acquired in 2026. The Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Massachusetts, is where Andrew and Abby Borden were killed in 1892, in one of the most examined criminal cases in American history.
“Earning six USA Today 10Best nominations is an incredible honor, especially because they recognize so many different parts of what US Ghost Adventures does,” said Kelli Bloomquist, Communications & PR Director. “From ghost tours in Washington, D.C., and Williamsburg to historic properties like the Villisca Axe Murder House, McInteer Villa and Lizzie Borden House, these nominations reflect the experiences our teams work hard to create and the history we’re committed to preserving and sharing. To see the Lizzie Borden House recognized in two categories makes this year especially exciting for us.”
The Lizzie Borden House is nominated in two categories this year, competing as both a haunted destination and a haunted hotel. The 1845 Greek Revival home operates as a bed and breakfast and museum, where guests can book and stay in the same rooms where the Borden family lived and died.
DC Ghosts and Colonial Ghosts are two of the haunted historic walking tours US Ghost Adventures operates in more than 250 cities nationwide. The tours are built on local records, court documents, and property histories rather than invented lore.
USA Today 10Best voting is open to readers 18 and older at 10best.usatoday.com, with one vote allowed per category, per day. Winners will be announced on September 30.
