OCALA, Fla. – Voltage Nexus today announced the official launch of its portable battery rental kiosk network, introducing a new way for consumers to stay connected while away from home and providing businesses with an additional amenity for their customers.
Voltage Nexus kiosks allow customers to rent portable power banks directly from participating locations. Rather than leaving a phone connected to a stationary charging station, customers can take the battery with them, continue using their device and return the battery to a participating Voltage Nexus kiosk when finished.
Rentals are designed around straightforward pricing of $4 per hour, with a maximum rental charge of $50.
“We built Voltage Nexus around a simple problem almost everyone has experienced – you’re away from home, your phone isdying and you still need it,” said Mitchell Tucker, founder of Voltage Nexus. “Our goal is to build a network where finding portable power becomes increasingly convenient, whether you’re at a restaurant, entertainment venue, shopping destination or another high-traffic location.”
Building a Distributed Charging Network
Unlike a traditional charging business that relies exclusively on company-owned locations, Voltage Nexus is building its network through a combination of company operations and independent partners.
Voltage Nexus partners can purchase kiosks and work to place them in high-traffic businesses and venues. This model isdesigned to accelerate network expansion while allowing participating kiosk owners to share in revenue generated by their locations.
Host venues can provide portable charging as an additional customer amenity without requiring customers to leave their phones unattended at a wall outlet or stationary charger.
“Our vision is much bigger than simply renting batteries,” Tucker said. “We want to build a recognizable network that peopleknow they can look for when they need power. Every new location makes that network more useful.”
Charging Meets Digital Advertising
Voltage Nexus kiosks also incorporate digital displays, creating an additional platform for businesses and advertisers to reach consumers at physical locations.
Through the company’s advertising platform, businesses will be able to purchase advertising placements across participating Voltage Nexus kiosks, creating a network that combines portable charging with location-based digital advertising.
The model is intended to create multiple participants in the Voltage Nexus ecosystem: consumers gain access to portable charging, venues receive an additional customer amenity, advertisers gain access to physical audiences, and kiosk partners participate in the growth of the network.
Preparing for Expansion
Voltage Nexus is beginning its initial rollout in the United States, with expansion expected as additional kiosks and venue locations join the network.
The company believes demand for convenient charging will continue to grow as smartphones increasingly become essential for communication, navigation, payments, transportation, entertainment and everyday business.
“A dead phone isn’t just inconvenient anymore,” Tucker said. “For a lot of people, their phone is their wallet, their GPS, their ticket, their camera and their connection to everyone around them. We believe convenient access to portable power is becoming an increasingly valuable service.”
Voltage Nexus plans to continue expanding its kiosk footprint through venue relationships and its independent partner network.
“We’re at the beginning,” Tucker added. “The exciting part for us is seeing individual locations begin connecting into somethingmuch larger. Our mission is to build Voltage Nexus one kiosk, one venue and one community at a time.”
