SurgiSight™, the world’s first wearable surgical microscope, takes top honors in the Healthtech/Biotechtrack at the Southeast’s largest startup capital summit.
WINSTON-SALEM, NC, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Unify Medical, Inc., developer of the SurgiSight™ wearable surgical microscope platform, today announced it was selected as the top presenting company in the Healthtech/Biotech track at ConvergeSouth 2026, held August 27–28 at Biotech Place in Winston-Salem’s Innovation Quarter.
Unify Medical was chosen from 75 healthcare and life sciences companies that pitched across four stages during the conference’s Healthtech/Biotech day. President and CEO Douglas R. Carroll presented SurgiSight™ to a panel of investor and strategic judges on Pitch Stage 4 while the company also hosted a demo table in the exhibit hall.
Now in its tenth year, ConvergeSouth has grown into one of the largest expositions of scalable, investable startups in the Southeast, drawing more than 500 founders, investors, and regional entrepreneurship leaders and roughly 150 exhibiting companies across three market verticals: Healthtech/Biotech, AI/B2B SaaS, and Food/Beverage/Agtech. This year’s conference served as a regional qualifier for the Startup World Cup, the global pitch competition powered by Pegasus Tech Ventures, which culminates in a Grand Finale in San Francisco where regional champions compete for a $1 million investment prize. The overall ConvergeSouth qualifier title went to a company in the Agtech track.
Unify Medical participated at the invitation of Johnson & Johnson, which joined ConvergeSouth 2026 to connect with founders and capital partners across key growth sectors and brought members of its external innovation group onsite for one-on-one meetings with selected companies.
“Our message to the judging panel of investors and strategics was clear and concise” said Carroll. “The clinical need for SurgiSight™ is undeniable, the regulatory status is secured, and the intellectual property is heavily defended. From there it becomes a commercial question, and the answers similarly hold: our technology is imminently scalable against an enviable TAM, with established reimbursement, rapidly growing adoption and a management team that has built and transacted previously”.
“Conventional surgical microscopy is a large, entrenched market defended by costly, cumbersome capital equipment that Ambulatory Surgery Centers struggle to justify. SurgiSight™ attacks that from a position of strength—the same 3D high-definition visualization in a wearable form factor and at a price point that converts a capital objection into a purchase order. That is a textbook expansion story, and expansion markets drive desirable returns”.
Carroll, whose prior ventures include companies acquired by Stryker, Johnson & Johnson, Kimberly-Clark, Guidant, and Cytyc, added that the recognition arrives as Unify Medical advances commercialization with hospital and ASC partners: “Recognition is validation, not a milestone. The milestone is the next signed account. We are raising to scale success, and we are talking to investors who want to be in early on a category that gets built once”.
