WHY SEPTEMBER IS THE DECISION WINDOW

Halloween buying now begins well before October. In its annual Halloween survey, conducted September 2 to 9, 2025 among 8,045 consumers, the National Retail Federation found that nearly half of consumers, 49 percent, began shopping in September or earlier.

The same survey put total Halloween spending at a record $13.1 billion, up from $11.6 billion the prior year, with per-person spending at a record $114.45. Decorations are the fastest-moving part of that: 78 percent of consumers planned to buy them, up from 75 percent, for an estimated $4.2 billion. NRF also found that 51 percent decorate their home or yard, putting decorating on par with wearing a costume.

For a household deciding in early September, the practical question is not whether to decorate but how much of the purchase gets used only once.

HOW THE HALLOWEEN TO CHRISTMAS SWAP WORKS

WHAT THE TWO LINES ACTUALLY DO

Each taper is made with real black wax, stands 11.4 inches tall on a 0.78 inch base, and uses a white silicone flame tip that can be set to glow either purple or orange. The remote switches between steady and twinkle and sets timers for 6, 8, or 12 hours. They are USB-C rechargeable, reaching a full charge in about 3 hours, and ship with a 12 inch charging cord. No batteries are required. A single charge delivers up to 96 hours on steady, 152 hours on twinkle, or about 21 days on the 6 hour timer, which covers the full Halloween season without a recharge.

The flameless wax taper candles made for year-round use come in ivory, red and sage green, lit by a warm white LED rated 2700 to 2900 Kelvin, sharing the height, base, remote functions and charging method.

The Halloween suction cup window candles are sold as a set of four with a remote, in four body and bulb combinations and in a warm white configuration for Christmas. Each candle uses a bi-directional LED bulb that throws a brighter light outward toward the street and a softer light inward. The remote offers 6, 8, and 12 hour timer cycles and two light functions. In timer mode the set runs more than 30 days on 3 AA batteries, which are not included.

Replacement bulbs are sold in pairs in warm white, orange or purple, and are compatible with models using 3 or 4 AA batteries. Used without a remote, the bulbs default to a 6 hour daily timer.

WHAT THE TIMER ACTUALLY DOES

Every remote-equipped line shares the same timer logic, and it is worth understanding because it determines whether a display runs unattended. Setting a 6, 8, or 12 hour cycle means the candles switch on at the same clock time each day and run for the chosen duration without further input. A set started at dusk on October 1 will continue lighting itself at dusk through the end of the month.

That is what makes the battery and charge figures meaningful rather than theoretical. More than 30 days on one set of 3 AA batteries assumes timer mode, not continuous burn. The wax tapers, being rechargeable, reach a full charge in about 3 hours and are topped up over USB-C rather than replaced, and one charge on the 6 hour timer runs roughly 21 days.

WHY SUCTION CUP CANDLES EXIST

The suction cup format solves a specific problem: windows that have no sill, or sills obstructed by plants, blinds, or furniture. A weighted base candle needs a ledge to stand on. A suction cup candle mounts to the glass itself, which is what allows an upper-story window, a casement, or a door sidelight to join a display that would otherwise stop at ground level.

WHAT MAKES A FLAMELESS TAPER READ AS REAL

Two construction details separate a convincing flameless taper from an obvious one. The first is the body. A real wax coating takes light the way a burning candle does, with slight translucency at the edges, where molded plastic reads flat. The second is the flame. A white silicone tip diffuses the LED into a soft shape rather than showing a bright point of light, and the twinkle setting varies intensity instead of blinking on and off.

The dual-color flame on the Halloween tapers, purple or orange from the same candle, is a function of the bulb rather than a filter, so the color stays consistent across the set.

All of the flameless lines are cool to the touch and carry no open flame, which is the reason they can sit near fabric, dried arrangements, or paper decorations that a lit taper cannot.
